Irish information is gleaned form family bibles, family letters, and verbal history, and cousin Mary Cavan, in N.I. who is a local historian. Events in Victoria have been checked with registration records.
Many of the children of these  people sailed on the “Great Britain”  to Australia and changed their names to MUNTZ . Those who stayed in Ireland kept MUNCE.
Recent research by myself onto the Huguenot records [at AIGS] found only 1 Muntz who was a Huguenot naturalized on 28  Dec 1796,  whose name was Phillipp Frederick MUNTZ, son of John George MUNTZ and Mary SAURKOPF his wife, born Alsace. Records of  pensioned soldiers of William of Orange  living in Dublin and Portarlington Ireland,  found no Muntzs.

            m  3 May 1861 Emerald Hill, Victoria
           Jane JAMISON b 30 August 1836 Belfast died 29 October 1901 Vic.
They had nine children listed below.
Thomas arrived in Australia at the age of 19  with his mate Edwin Parnell on the “Reinzi”  and went gold prospecting for two years before becoming a country surveyor and Shire Engineer at Metcalf near Castlemaine.1860.
Later he surveyied much of the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne  then much later, became Mayor of Prahran, Melbourne.

1872 he belonged to the royal Society of Victoria.
He was a councillor  of Prahran from 1883-1893.

    Court Case he won!
[James Evans: 1829-1907:… The defence as to the balance was that the metal had to be broken to the satisfaction of Mr TB Muntz, engineer of the Shire of Metcalfe. … from  a dead link  www.gorey.com.au/evans.htm found ..
In 1874 the rate books describe James as a publican and contractor. He did construction work for the shire. His final municipal entry was in 1876, which coincides with the time he bought a farm at Timmering.
James Evans was referred to in a Kyneton Guardian report from September 7, 1869 as being taken to court by various sub-contractors claiming payment. The newspaper reported that M McManus sought an order for £8-19s to pay for work and labor done.
“Complainant had been engaged to break three-inch metal for the defendant a contractor with the Shire of Metcalfe at two shillings per yard. He had broken 89 yards, which at the rate named made up the amount. A sum to the amount of £5-14 was paid,” the paper reported.
“The defence as to the balance was that the metal had to be broken to the satisfaction of Mr TB Muntz, engineer of the Shire of Metcalfe. He deposed to having examined the stone broken by Mr McManus and found at least 20 percent above the gauge.
“Mr Evans had offered, in order that complainant’s labor should not be altogether in vain, that complainant should take the spreading of the metal and break the large stones as they turned up. Defendant had offered four shillings a yard for this work, which Mr Muntz considered not only a fair, but a high price. Case was dismissed with 15 shillings costs.”
Similar cases brought against J Evans by Peter Dillon, Edmund Maher and Jeremiah Sullivan were also dismissed.” see : http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/g/o/r/Michael-J-Gorey/BOOK-0001/0004-0001.html]

Jamison / Muntz Connections – Will of  Mrs Jane Robinson
Jane Jamison  who married T B Muntz  was a daughter of Jane nee CARSON, (died c 1875 Woodend) and John Jamison. The mother of Jane Muntz  left a will from which we can infer  she as  Mrs Jamison later  married  one Robert Robinson who was mentally incapable in 1874.  Mrs  Robinson (nee CARSON) left her estate  which was 1032 pounds [ at a time when a house cost about 10 pounds] to her children and her executors.

Her children were named John Jamison, William Thomas Jamison of Jamaica, Agnes Allen, Elizabeth Muntz and Jane Muntz and sons Hugh Jamison and  Carson Robinson – the last two she prepared for them not to claim their portions of her estate, so I presume she had lost all contact with them for some years. The executors were son John Jamison  civil engineer of Jeffrey street Kyneton and Thomas Bingham Muntz of 7 High Street Prahran surveyor. So  her daughters  were “Elizabeth Muntz”  married to Joseph Muntz of Woodend “Little Joe” and  Jane  Muntz wife of Thomas B Muntz. [copy of will available on request to family]

“Ryde Council was empowered to construct a bridge and approaches over the Parramatta River under the Parramatta River Act, 1931. Ryde Council began work on the bridge in 1933, paying for the cost of construction through the collection of tolls. Ryde Bridge was completed two years later to a design by the Department of Main Roads (DMR); W I Muntz was the supervising engineer (RTA File 387.1176 Part 1 Bridge over the Parramatta River at Uhr’s Point. General File. 1938-1952, Memo 29/9/1949). The Premier of NSW, the Hon B S B Stevens, officially opened Ryde Bridge on 7 December 1935. Other dignitaries present at the opening were W Harrison (Mayor of Ryde), the Hon E S Spooner MLA (Member for Ryde), as well as members of the Ryde Squadron Australian Air. Ryde Bridge was designed with a vertical lift span to allow passing river craft along the Parramatta River to pass underneath (including ocean going vessels and large sailing boats). The other option at this crossing would have been a higher bridge, which, with the extended approaches necessary, would have been very costly.”

“Catani  [Catani, Carlo Giorgio Domenico Enrico (1852-1918). Catani, Reinforced Concrete and Monash.
Catani was born in Florence. After studying civil engineering at the Technical Institute he gained experience in railway construction; then migrated to New Zealand in 1876. Unable to find work he came to Melbourne, where he was appointed to the Department of Lands and Survey.] is known as a colourful character. In 1905 he had evidently teased Shire Engineer J[ohn]. N[elson]. Muntz who had approached Monash for a Monier Arch bridge near Ballan. J Monash  told Muntz: ‘I think Mr Catani’s objections were only a bit of side, and one of the funny little ways he has got’. When JM learned that the Engineer at Benalla had told Catani about cracks in the new bridge, Monash warned him that Catani was ‘inclined to take such erratic views’. Catani was amongst those who wanted the Janevale bridge re-tested after cracks developed there also (1912).
